The BASIC code for “Bible Characters Scramble” was originally published in J. Conrod,
Computer Bible Games (Accent Publications, 1984). The present adaptation is based on
the code for the TRS-80 Color Computer, with minor adaptations made for
gameplay and design. This unofficial, non-commercial
HTML browser-based version — v1.1 — is by Andrew
Perrin, built with artificial intelligence coding assistance. Past and present versions of the
game were adapted in good faith under fair use guidelines for educational, personal, and
research purposes. Original BASIC code used with permission by Philip Conrod. All original
rights remain with their respective owners.
HOW TO PLAY
Goal
The computer silently picks a person named in the Bible
Guess its letters, then spell it out to confirm
Gameplay
Guess letters A–Z one at a time — correct letters are revealed as found
The word's length is not shown — this is a knowledge test, not a hint game
Once every letter is found, type the full word to confirm it
Afterward, share why the person matters — with another player if you have one, or just for yourself
This closing step is not checked by the computer — it's a discussion prompt, not a quiz question
Game Details
39 people named in the Bible are drawn from, e.g. DAVID, MARY, ELIJAH
A loop-bound mismatch in the original source made 3 of these 39 names (TITUS, PHILEMON, JAMES) unreachable in the original game; all 39 are selectable here
