ABOUT THIS ADAPTATION The BASIC code for “Daniel in the Lions' Den” was originally published in J. Conrod, Computer Bible Games (Accent Publications, 1984). The present adaptation is based on the code for the TRS-80 Color Computer, with minor adaptations made for gameplay and design. This unofficial, non-commercial HTML browser-based version — v1.1 — is by Andrew Perrin, built with artificial intelligence coding assistance. Past and present versions of the game were adapted in good faith under fair use guidelines for educational, personal, and research purposes. Original BASIC code used with permission by Philip Conrod. HOW TO PLAY
> GOAL
  • Daniel is in a den with five lions — you can see the whole board, pits included
  • Every lion automatically takes one step toward Daniel after each of your turns
  • You win by maneuvering Daniel so that all five lions are eventually tricked into stepping on a pit and falling in
  • You lose instantly if Daniel steps onto a pit, or if a lion's chase step lands exactly on Daniel
> GAMEPLAY
  • Each turn, choose a direction on the 3×3 pad — all eight directions and a center “stay” are available
  • After you move (or stay), every lion still in play takes one step toward Daniel's new position
  • Lions move in a straight line toward you on each axis — they don't path around pits, so you can lure them into one
  • If a lion steps into a pit, it falls in and is out of the game for good
  • The den's outer wall is solid pit all the way around — there's nowhere to run off the edge
