ABOUT THIS ADAPTATION The BASIC code for “Helping the Israelites Find Quail” (a.k.a., “The Quail Game”) was originally published in J. Conrod, Computer Bible Games (Accent Publications, 1984). The present adaptation is based on the code for the TRS-80 Color Computer, with minor adaptations made for gameplay and design. This unofficial, non-commercial HTML browser-based version — v1.5.3 — is by Andrew Perrin, built with artificial intelligence coding assistance. Past and present versions of the game were adapted in good faith under fair use guidelines for educational, personal, and research purposes. Original BASIC code used with permission by Philip Conrod. HOW TO PLAY
> GOAL
  • God has sent quail to Israel — they are hiding in the grass
  • Find every hidden quail in as few tries as possible
> GAMEPLAY
  • The field is a 10×20 patch of grass, rows 1–10 and columns A–T
  • Tap any patch of grass to search it, or move the amber cursor with the arrow keys and press ENTER or SPACE to search
  • A hit reveals a quail; a miss clears that patch of grass
  • Searching a patch you've already cleared just wastes a moment — watch for the reminder
  • Quail tend to hide in small clumps of four — if you find one, check right beside it
  • You have until evening falls to find them all — watch the "EVENING APPROACHING" bar
